Frugal Family Fun ? Have the Academy Awards at Home

Since last weekend was the Academy Awards ? I thought for this week?s Frugal Family Fun post ? we would plan an Academy Awards party for your house that the whole family can do together ? I found some great ideas that the kids are sure to love!

Fun Ideas for the Oscar Party

Have the red carpet rolled out for the kids!
- You can use a piece of red material or red felt would also work well.? You can also stop by a local Carpet Store and see if they have any FUN, red samples ? you can usually get these for FREE

Have the area where the television is roped off if possible.
- You can use yarn or rope?whatever you have avail in your house

Have the kids get dresses up in their fancy clothing or fancy play clothes.

Take pictures of them as they come down the red carpet.

Make a table centerpiece.
- It can be as simple as roses, real or artificial, in a vase. You can add some sparkle with crystals or gem stones from the craft store.

FUN Food Ideas

Put chocolate or vanilla pudding in longstem glasses (plastic champagne glasses would be FUN!), the kids will love it and think they are really being fancy.
- We have done this before ? I like to add whip cream as a FUN extra

Make star shaped sugar cookies, you can have them write their name on a cookie and the name of their favorite movie stars on other cookies using icing pens. These can be made with your favorite sugar cookie recipe or the refrigerated sugar cookie dough from the grocery store.

Use a star shaped cookie cutter to make mini sandwiches. These can be ham, chicken salad, tuna salad, bologna or even peanut butter and jelly just make sure the kids like it.

Fresh popcorn can also be served with a variety of toppings on hand to spice it up.

Drinks can be punch, sparkling grape juice or seltzer water. Even soft drinks are fancy in a long stemmed glass.
